Fishing Report

Check back to get (more) frequent fishing reports.

Another week of excellent fishing is behind us and this week has started off great again. The fish are all moving out of the current as the river rises and they become easy to target on shorlines or next to structure in the water. I heard the Walleye and Sauger went nuts Monday night between 4 and 6pm. One guy had 20 Walleye/Sauger himself in that two hour stretch. Use a Magnum Walleye minnow with a jig up shallow or out of the current and you will get results. Another friend of mine got the tri-fecta last weekend. He and a couple buddies started on Crappie, hammmered them, went to Bass, got them and ended with 16 Walleye in the last couple hours of the night. The Sunfish continue to produce but many small ones get the bait first. You just have to sort. Northern Pike action is ok in the dying or dead weeds. Striper action is great on sand and in current or wherever shad are hanging over deep water. Perch are pretty good and Cats can still be caught too. This weeks theme is "stay out of the heavy current and get bit!"

The fishing report is once again excellent. Panfish are still going very good and it doesn't seem to matter what type of bait is used. More and More Walleye are being caught everyday now and crankbaits seem to be the hot ticket. Wingdams, closing dams and the Dams themselves are all producing. Bass are killing anything that looks like a shad so naturally crankbaits, spinnerbaits, topwater baits, swimming jigs and spoons are all working well. Try for Northern Pike with the same baits as for Bass. Northern action is good too. Look for Stripers around current and try minnow or shad imitations for the best action. They are hitting quite well when you come across them. Real good Catfishing has been reported too. Try stinkbait or cutbait for Channel Cats and Suckers, Sunfish or Crappies for the Mudcats. Get out fishing if you can because it is quite good.

The fishing is very good right now. Panfish have been going nuts. Wingdams, Spillways, inside weedlines, docks with current going by them as well as trees in deep water or with current are all good. We are selling every type of bait there is. I have run out of several things this week but will be stocked by the time this comes out. Bass and Northern are going crazy too. Weeds, sand and wingdams have all produced in the last week. The baitfish are everywhere and the fish look extremely well fed when caught. Try swimming jigs, buzzbaits, topwater frogs or cranbaits for the best action. I don't remember a better bite going in the last few years than right now. Catfishing is super with Channel cats hitting the best. Stinkbait, cut bait or Crawlers are all working. Suckers or Sunfish are still the best for Flatheads but they are spotty. Walleye fishing just began heating up with my first real good reports coming in this morning. Striper action is only so-so but should pick up in the coming days.

The fish report was excellent this last week. The Bass were going nuts in the weeds and out in the channel. You can say the same for just about every species. Current is King in the hot, dog days of summer. Look for panfish on bottlenecks with a little more current than everwhere around. Either that or weed cuts with flow on them. The crappies are coming in the same areas and also deeper water with wood. Big cats are coming out of fairly shallow water with mild flow. The absolute best bait right now is a Sucker. I am being given cats like crazy, both Flatheads and Channels, and they are all being caught on suckers. Look for Walleyes in deep holes or in heavy current. The Stripers are on heavy current points and wingdams/closing dams. The Northern Pike are nuts in the weeds too. People are complaining about how many lures they are losing to the "snakes". Perch are in mid depth clean water with mild flow. I have seen some beauties the last week. Fish the current and get bit, period!!

The fishing was good this past week. Bluegills were hitting strong on worms and waxi's on little jigs. Try sand and weedlines for bigger fish. Look for them on wingdams now too. Crappies were hitting on minnows and jigs as well. Jigs with waxis were good too. They are being found on mild flow with wood in fairly shallow water. Bass are hitting topwater in the weeds and can also be found on wingdams. Try jigs, frogs, buzzbaits or poppers for the best action. Northern Pike can be caught the same way as Bass but using live bait has been the best. Suckers have been hot for Pike. Walleye are on Wingdams or underwater rock as well as in holes. Trolling cranks or using Leeches have been the best. Striper action is good on heavy current points as well as on closing dams. Topwater poppers and bladebaits have produced well for them as well as big Walleye minnows. Perch are swimming weedlines and minnows have done quite well. Catfish continue to go nuts and should be fished with stinkbait for Channels, and Sunfish for Flatheads.

The fishing was good this last week. Walleye continue to produce on Wingdams as well as on banks with wood. Leeches or crankbaits are still the best. Crappies are schooled together and when you find a group of them they are usually very catchable. Little jigs with tails or a minnow will both work. The Sunfish are huddled together too. Little deeper water just outside the spawning area are good spots. Whether it be a drop or deeper weedlines, doesn't seem to matter. The Catfish are spawning in the shallows and Channel are producing the best. Stink bait or crawlers for channels while Sunfish or Suckers for Flatheads. The biggest Flathead we've seen so far was 54 pounds. Bass have been caught shallow the last week. Little jigs (tubes or jig and pigs) as well as topwater have produced well. Dark colors seem to be best due to the dirty water. Northern Pike are right with the Bass and have been ferocious. Try swimming jigs, spoons or Spinnerbaits for artificials. Suckers are the best live bait. Perch reports are getting better and weedlines are producing the best. Minnows have been the best for Perch. White Bass have slowed a bit but are still being found in Packs along the wingdams.
